clear_pixel VR has secured £378,000 in funding from angel syndicates, led by Huw Bishop in collaboration with the Development Bank of Wales.
The investment marked a significant milestone for the company, enabling the continued development and expansion of its virtual reality training platform for biomedical science.
clear_pixel VR is designed to provide students and early-career scientists with a safe, scalable environment to practise complex laboratory techniques. The platform enables users to train in procedures across areas such as electrophysiology, pharmacology, and neuroscience — without the limitations of physical lab access.
By allowing users to repeat procedures as many times as needed in a virtual setting, the platform improves confidence, standardisation, and technical proficiency, while also reducing reliance on consumables and lowering training costs.
Founded by Jake Spanswick and Quinn Byron-Dyer, the company aims to make high-quality, hands-on scientific training accessible from anywhere. Through immersive technology, clear_pixel VR enables institutions to deliver consistent and effective practical training at scale.
The funding has supported product development, team growth, and early commercial traction, helping the company expand its reach across academic and industry partners.
The round was led by experienced angel investor Huw Bishop, alongside support from the Development Bank of Wales, highlighting strong confidence in the company's vision and technology.
"This investment was a huge step forward for us. It gave us the ability to accelerate development, grow the team, and start bringing immersive training to institutions globally. We've always believed there's a better way to deliver practical scientific training — one that's more accessible, scalable, and effective — and this backing allowed us to start turning that vision into reality."
